Imagine my delight as I walked the seashore and discovered this magical form that had washed up from the ocean’s depths.  Only the fish’s thick skin remained, almost triangular in form and covered in the six petal rosette that is the first circle and foundation of the Flower of Life.

The Flower Of Life can be seen throughout the natural world.  It represents the cycle of life and is the blueprint for all consciousness.  In the magical world of Sacred Geometry, it’s one of the most fascinating, well known, and recognized geometric symbols.  All other geometric forms are found within it, including the Platonic Solids, Metatron’s Cube, and the Merkaba.

The flower of life consists of nineteen overlapping circles, including two larger circles surrounding the outer edge. Together the circles form flower-like shapes, and by drawing straight lines between the node points where the circles overlap, all of the other geometrical shapes can be found. It is called a flower not just because it looks like a flower, but also because it represents the cycle of a fruit tree, which makes a little flower, and then goes through a metamorphosis and turns into a fruit. The cherry or apple or whatever kind of fruit that is created contains seeds within it, which fall to the ground and then become another fruit tree. This five-step process actually parallels the geometries of life.

Within the flower of life can be found other less famous symbols, that are like stages on the way to the development of the full flower of life. The Flower of Life is the process of Creation, and each of these shapes are a stage in its evolution, as it moves into full fruition.  They are the Vesica Piscis, Seed of Life, Tree of Life, Egg of Life, Fruit of Life and Metatron’s Cube

The oldest known example of the Flower Of Life symbol dates all the way back to Ancient Egypt. Wall reliefs in the Temple of Osiris show carvings from at least 6,000 years ago – inscribed onto a structure called the Osirion in Abydos, Egypt.

Found in almost all major religions throughout the world, it demonstrates that all consciousness arises from one source, the first circle.  The sacred Tree of Life in Kabbalah teachings, is taken from it’s concentric patterns.  Leonardo da Vinci, derived platonic solids and the golden ratio of phi from it.  Many believe that if we can understand this sacred geometric symbol, then we can understand the complex inner and outer workings of the Universe.

If you would like to meander through the wonderland of geometry, science and ancient history then I recommend  The Ancient Secret of the Flower Of Life Vol I & II by Drunvalo Melchizedek.

I for one will keep walking the shores, valleys and forests to marvel aloud.
